Hello guys,

Today I upgraded my system to Windows 10 pro from Windows 7 ultimate. So far, everything runs pretty smooth, games are working fine, etc. However, I realized that when I am monitoring my cpu temps on idle, cpu temp and cpu cores fluctuate in every second and it is driving me crazy. I am using MSI Afterburner to monitor my temps. I double checked cpu temps with other apps such as HWINFO64 and Core Temp and temps are fluctuating in a same way. I never had an issue like that in Windows 7. I think problem is related to cpu usage fluctuations on idle. I tried to disable any background applications that can use cpu but it is still no go. Any suggestions will be appreciated. Thanks in advance!

When idle, cpu temps and core usages are like this: http://imgur.com/kVxCHv2

Here's my specs:

CPU: AMD FX 8350 (Stock)
GPU: r9 380X Nitro
Ram: 16 GB
Mobo: GA-970A-UD3P
PSU: High Power 750 Watt 80+ Gold
OS: Windows 10 Pro 64 Bit

May I ask you to provide a few precisions concerning your current issue?
-What are the temperatures it seems to usually fluctuate between?
-What is your current Power Configuration in Windows? What was it before?
-Are things such as Cortana or really anything that is consistently connected to the Internet running?

First of all, a fluctuation of 3-5 degrees, even in idle, isn't that odd, mostly if your fans are running in some sort of quiet mode. Additionally, Windows run with a bunch of background processes that you may not notice right away, but are always connected to the Internet. I gave Cortana as an example, but if other apps like Outlook are also set-up, they secretly run in the background. Most of these options didn't exist on...

Hey Sky! Thanks for your answer.

- As it is seen in my uploaded image, on idle it fluctuates between 5-10 degrees (like from 5 degrees to 14 degrees)
- My current Power config is balanced. It was also balanced in win 7.
- I disconnected from the internet, fluctuations still exist.

I really think that it is related to cpu usage fluctuations and as you mentioned it can be caused by one or many of background apps. My first two cpu cores fluctuates a lot on idle. I know it is not a big deal but it makes me uncomfortable and I need to solve this!

I've also recently switched from Windows 7 to 10, back in December. I've noticed the same thing, but I didn't really paid much attention to it. I don't get much in terms of temperature fluctuation because I'm using a pretty good liquid cooler, but I definitely noticed the small fluctuations in usage.

I must point out that your CPU's temperatures aren't reading correctly, unless you live in a refrigerator. Your CPU cannot run colder than the room it is in, and many people have said that AMD's FX temperature reading was incorrect when below, I think, 40 Celsius.

On the subject of solving this, if it really is related to Windows, I doubt there's much you can do, apart from disabling some of the background apps that it runs. I'm also thinking that disabling Internet might make your problem worse, since those apps might be consistently looking for a connection, instead of updating every few moments.

FX series' temperature readings are different than intel's. Until full load, temp core readings not showing real values. Under full load they reach around 40 degrees. My CPU package is around 30 degrees on idle btw and I have liquid cooler also (Corsair H80i). As long as I did not face any similar problems in Windows 7, I'm pretty sure that it is really related to Windows 10. Anyway, do you have any suggestions what to do apart form disabling apps? Thanks again for your help.

Hey Benji! Nowadays it is snowy and it is freezing out there! So my idle core temps are around 5-10 degrees. My Cpu Packages is around 30. My Load temps are around 40-45 degrees which is pretty cool i guess. I am using AMD Overdrive already for load temps and HWINFO64 to monitor idle temps and core voltages.

The model of my PSU is Astro Lite 750W and I am pretty happy with it!

That's good temps and you seem to know your way around your computer so no need to be bothered by it. Win10 does come with some bloatware. Here is a guide if you haven't seen it.

I don't know much about the Astro Lite series since there aren't any reviews on it. I know that their Astro GD series is pretty good. I think yours should also be in the same ballpark. I also have the same mobo, I really it other than the weird double post I experience when I boot up the PC.

Yeah I know. I guess you overclocked your CPU and disabled your Turbo Core. Disabling Turbo Core makes computer to double boot in this mobo. Beta BIOS solves this issue but it causes some CPU fan issues so I don't recommend update your BIOS to beta BIOS. Thank you for the link btw. I'll try it. Right now I am playing with my task schedulers by using Autoruns program. Also trying to update my drivers. So far couldn't find solutions though. I'll let you guys know if I find the culprit. In the meantime, I will be glad for other solutions.

I guess windows 7's balanced power saving mode was more aggresive than windows 10. I don't want to use my computer at power saving mode and when set it to "balanced" cpu temp starts jumping. I even tried "balanced" mode's settings to match with "power saving" mode but it still fluctuates. I guess I need to learn with it unless I set to power mode to power saving mode 🙁

Edit: I clean installed win10 and found the culprit. It is Avast Antivirus. Now I am using Malwarebytes with Windows Defender. I will mark this thread as solved.
