Solution

everyone here will tell you that any FX will bottleneck any graphic cards you can pick up, starting as low as the Rage Fury Maxx.
FXs are worth about jackshit if it was worth something already...
Go for Intel and you'll be fine. Internet will be faster :)
As a person who just came from having an 8350 and 1080 combo, I would recommend against it. This day and age, the 8350 is not aging well and it runs really hot unless you have a liquid cooler on it.

The fx 8350 may be tempting but it's been aging for awhile now and doesn't offer the single core performance that intel cpu's do. It does ok in a lot of games, it's not that it won't game, but there are quite a few titles where the fps avg are significantly lower and times where the min fps are significantly lower. It's about to be replaced by zen in early 2017 so hard to recommend people invest into something to hold them over when an upgrade in the anywhere near future will be half of a system overhaul.

Once you go 8350 your only real choice for improvement is to overclock it and that will help a little. There really isn't anything better than an 8350 so when met with an upgrade decision it will mean either replacing the motherboard, cpu and ram for amd zen, am4 motherboard and ddr4 ram - or going to intel skylake, with a new cpu, motherboard and ddr4 ram.

On the other hand if you go with something like a skylake i3 6100, not only is it priced similarly with similar or sometimes better gaming performance you have more upgrade options. Rather than replacing half your system you have the choice to upgrade to an i5 or i7, niether of which amd really has a counterpart to right now.

I would say to look at both camps but amd doesn't really have anything current, the am3+/fx line has been in a holding pattern for quite awhile and zen isn't available just yet so can't very well suggest that. Especially without any concrete benchmarks for comparison, pricing info or availability.

I would say an FX-8350 would not be much of an upgrade over a 6300. The FX-8350 only turbos 100mhz higher at stock speeds and might actually overclock worse, due to having more cores and higher power consumption. Though it has 2 more cores, most games only effectively use 2-4 cores anyway, so going from 6 to 8 would have little to no effect on game performance.

There is module penalty to consider, though. With the FX-6300, due to shared resources among the cores, if you use more than 3 of them, your single-threaded performance begins to tank on the cores that share a module, while that doesn't happen until more than 4 on the FX-8.

i gave you the extra information because somebody said "If you already have an AM3+ motherboard, an FX-8xxx could make sense."
in any sense of the matter the motherboard or the op's current cpu shouldn't matter anyway but the fact that he said he was on a budget and so forth i felt it was relevant.

"im on a budget and wondering if it will work fine also if not what good budget cpu's can i get for a 1060"

I was curious where all the extra detailed info came from since it wasn't provided by the op. Do you know the op or something? That's all I was getting at, the op was simply asking about cpu's in general then out of nowhere by someone other than the op we get specific specs.

"He has a gigabyte GA-78LMT-USB3, fx 6300 with a gtx 960 currently with his current build i think the fx 8350 is a good upgrade."

Just wasn't sure where all those things came from since they weren't mentioned up front. If someone has an existing build and a limited budget to upgrade it could change the suggestions made for their situation. Their build isn't listed in the original post, not in their signature or under their user info. Thought maybe my crystal ball was on the fritz 😛

I am a friend IRL lol
basically the situation currently
gigabyte GA-78LMT-USB3
FX 6300
gtx 960
also it'd be good to note he occasionally streams

I've search around the web and watched many youtube video's and because he's on a budget i don't think the FX 8350 isn't a bad upgrade seen as there is only a slight bottleneck when doing something so CPU intensive. (leaving the game still playable)

Don't get me wrong a new motherboard and cpu (preferable intel) would be great but with the fx 8350 and the gtx 1060 totaling up over £400 already,
It's already a close case tbf but people on the internet were saying it does bottleneck and some were saying it doesn't so he made this thread to clear that up.
If streaming and playing a game would be to intensive on this CPU? then maybe he will consider saving for a mobo and new CPU, Thanks

I currently have an AMD 8350, and just upgraded to a i7 6900k with a GTX 1080. The 8350 is so far out of being current that you are better off spending the needed money and upgraded to an Intel. I now only use my 8350 as a VM host for testing..
