fx 8350 or i5 3570 (non k)

It really comes down to mostly personal preference. The i5 should have slightly faster per core performance (thus slightly better for gaming) and much less power consumption. The 8350, on the other hand, has more cores (nice for lots of multitasking and huge games like battlefield 4 that can utilize 6-8 cores). Also the 8350 has a AM3+ socket that would probably last you one more processor upgrade and thus save you the cost of a motherboard. Some people would argue that usually people wouldn't buy a new processor within 3-4 years anyways so maybe that wouldn't be a factor.

Ive seen benchmarks showing the 8350 way ahead but then again, it doesn't necessarily translate to real life gaming performance. Some gaming reviews say the 8350 is better, others say the 3570 is better.

All factors considered I'd personally go for the 8350 if you're spending $200 on a processor (the i7 is better but more expensive) but either way you're going to get a good CPU that will last you a few years and play most games on max settings (basically it wont be your bottleneck).
I've seen the 8350 for $180 for what it's worth.

Basically reiterating what he said, you can't go wrong, but if you want to upgrade to the next generation of CPUs when they hit, AMD will allow you to buy a new steamroller CPU and drop it right in, while intel will require you to buy a new board for either haswell or broadwell.

The difference in 95% of games between the 2 is within margin of error for the benchmarks, which essentially means they're a draw or a wash, and neither one is dramatically better or worse than the other on average.
