Fx 8350 stock cooler

I recently purchased an Fx 8350, an ASrock 970 extreme3 and an r9 280x, needless to say the stock cooler is a total nightmare. When playing "light" games such as League of legends or Fallout newvegas the fan will rotate at 6780 rpm, even though the cpu is supposedly at 45-55C it's very loud and annoying and sometimes sounds like it may very well explode.

I have two main questions:
1. Is it okay for a fan to reach 6000 rpm so long as its cooling the CPU

2. I'm getting an aftermarket fan today, because i would like to be able to play more demanding games, so i'm wondering what fan i should go with, and how to determine the compatibility between the fan and my machine

there is nothing wrong with those temps or fan speed, its loud and annoying but won't hurt anything till you get the upgraded fan.

The Coolermaster TX3 or Hyper Evo 212 are good heatsinks.

To check if its compatible, you need to know the heatsink clearance of the case, what case have you got?

So if you have a side panel fan then you will be limited to 141mm and 165 without a side panel fan.

The TX3 will fit with and without a side panel fan.

The Hyper Evo 212 will fit without a side panel fan.
