Im thinking of upgrading my cpu and was wondering which cpu would be better. If I do upgrade I know I would have to get a new mobo. Also I record and render videos in best quality.

Depends on your budget really...if you want to drop the cash, the 3770k is ever so slightly better then the 8350 right now.

However, is it worth spending 70-80% more for the CPU?

You can get the 8350 for $179 right now, and it's every bit of 90-95% of the performance.

You can get the 3770k or 4770k right now for over $300. You'd be spending an extra $120 for 5-10% performance gain.

That's the reality though, I went with the 8350 and spent more money on my GPU. That would go MUCH farther in rendering.

True, Rendering is most affected by the GPU.
In livestreaming the FX 8350 runs circles around the I7 3770k
In everything else it compares very well for 100 dollars less.
And in some games it even beats it out.

I strongly believe that he's better off spending that money elsewhere unless he didn't already.
The GPU is the most important factor to rendering and unless the next GPU costs more than 200 dollars more he'll be better off upgrading that.
Heck, I have great rendering results with an I3 540 when using my HD 6850 to render, It takes me about 60% of the length of the video to render it at 720p, and that's when using an old low end CPU and a mid end GPU.

By the way, if you're using Sony vegas get an AMD gpu, Sony vegas pro 12 supports them perfectly and they render very quickly.

Also with the new AMD technology games should be able to take advantage to extra cores, Starting with a big name "Battlefield 4" which will get a patch a few months down it's lifecycle to support Mantle.
