HELP!!!
I built a new system and bought a brand new AMD FX-8350 with wraith cooler. For the life of me, I cannot get this thing not to overheat. At first, I installed the cooler with the applied thermal paste. It would overheat and shut down when trying to do anything intensive. I figured the issue was with the thermal paste, since I was stupid and reseated the cooler during the build.
I went out and bought new thermal paste (Arctic Silver - Arctic Alumina) and reinstalled the wraith cooler. In bios, I see a temp of 78C. Once in Windows and letting it sit, idle temps go all the way down to sub 20C (though it bounces a lot up to 30C). As soon as I start doing anything, temps surge. Testing load with prime95, I can see the temps hold at 78C and the chip is thermal throttling.
I have reinstalled the chip and reapplied thermal paste about 5 times, and nothing has helped. I even tried more/less thermal paste. Less paste lets the system stay on for a minute before it shuts off. More paste hasn't helped temps, and if I use any more at this point, itll squeeze out the sides.
I feel like I must be doing something wrong, but I can't figure out what. Please let me know any ideas you may have to fix this.
I don't seem to have any other issues.
Build:
FX-8350 Black Edition with Wraith Cooler
Gigabyte 990FXA-UD3 Rev4.0 with Bios F3
12 GB HyperX Fury DDR3-1600
MSI Radeon RX480 Armor 8G OC
Corsair RM850 (massive overkill but I got it cheap)
Im using CoreTemp, NZXT Cam, and AMD Overdrive to verify temperatures, and they all look relatively accurate to one another.
