Hi,

I have an FX-8370 with the Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO installed. My motherboard is an M5A99FX PRO R2.0. I decided to do a light overclock, since I know that this cooler is only good for very mild overclocks. So, right now I'm running Prime95 (CPU is running at 4.3Ghz) in a custom test using 75% of my RAM more or less and the MAX socket temperature it reaches is 68C and the MAX core temperature it reaches is 50C. Is it a good idea to leave it like that 24/7 or should I back down to 4.2Ghz? Are those safe temps? The temperature hasn't gone over that (NOTE - one side panel of my case is open and I currently have my PC on my test bench, not under my desk - Corsair Carbide 330R). I live in El Paso, TX and temperatures have started to drop as fall is starting to settle in (just so you get an idea of ambient temperatures)

Thanks!

Solution
4.3 is a pretty good overclock. Generally on the FX chips, you won't get much further without going for a pretty big jump in voltage. If you're happy. Leave it at that. If you're doing it for fun, you can go with whatever, as long as you keep the voltage reasonably low (below 1.5V), so that you don't accidentally fry it. :)
Of course those temps are under load and i highly doubt they will ever be seen again. Cool n quiet and all that stuff is turned off for the moment until i finish overclocking, so what would you do? I'm thinking on leaving it like this at 4.3Ghz 24/7 but i dont want to fry anything or shorten the life of something (want system to last at least 5 years)

Alright then, I'll leave it at 4.3Ghz 24/7. It seems to be stable now and it's running at exactly 1.25 Volts (CPU VCore). Pretty sweet! I started testing at around 11:30AM today and it's now 9:00PM where I live and socket temperature never went over 68C. Running Prime95 custom test using 75% of my RAM. Thanks Suzuki, Sbargisen, and Sleetz, you guys rock!
