Hello everyone, first off i know my question is a repeated one from older multiple posts Ive read about compatibility of the fx series chips and running ram above 1866. so ill just tell ya my situation.
I'm building another PC with my old FX 8320 125 watt CPU that has a awesome overclock to 4.7GHz(anyway) I'm looking to take my g skill 1866 x series 9-10-9-28 2x8 16gb ram, out of my rig now to replace it with 2400mhz ram. my mobo is a ( asus m5a99fx pro r2.0) my ram is overclocked at this moment to 2179mhz with ram timing at 9-11-11-31 with no issues passes all memtest86+ ect.. i understand about raising ram voltage's along with cpu/nb voltages ect. my main question is if i buy 2400 ram will it work with the 9590 chip? at 2400 MHz even if i have to manually adj. every thing. i need to buy ram regardless just figure if i can upgrade id like to use 2400 if possible?
the 2400 ram is on my mobo qvl list and (pcpartspickers) says i have no conflicts with my system.
but Ive read a lot of posts saying that 2400 MHz ram will only run at 1866 due to the memory controller? again my 1866 ram is running at 2179 at the moment with no issues.
if 2400mhz ram is possible would running two duel sticks with 16gb or a full quad 4 stick set up be best based on the memory controller overload? thanks again!

thank you for the reply! from what i read running 2400 mhz ram was a long shot. but do you believe id be able to run 2133 ram with the lowest timing (16GB G.Skill DDR3 PC3-17000 RipjawsZ Series for Intel X79 (9-11-10-28) Quad Channel kit 4x4GB ) the lowest timing i can find in 8x2 is (G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 2133 ( 9-11-11-31) Desktop Memory Model F3-2133C9D-16GXH ) or just stay with the 1866mhz platform ? I'm still learning, so i could use all the help i can get..thank's..

I went out searching for knowledge and I came across this forum post
.
https://rog.asus.com/forum/showthread.php?96499-Corsair-Vengeance-32GB-not-stable-with-Asus-Crosshair-V-Formula-Z-2400Mhz&highlight=9590
after reading it. it gave me a idea to push my 1866 ram to 2400mhz to see if it would post and boot.
it would run at 2179mhz with 9-11-11-31 ram timing and passed (4 runs of memtest86+) anything above that i got BEEP..BEEP..BEEP ect. or wouldn't post! after adjusting my bios to the setting in the above post and changed my timing to 10-12-12-31 ( cause the 9-11-11-31 timing at 2400mhz didn't work) both these timing are on my mobo qvl for gskill ram. but any how my system is now running at 2400mhz!!!!!! :) not 100% sure if my testing is right but if i can run my ram o.c'd to 2400 then i'm guessing my chip will take 2400mhz ram if i keep the same set up 2x8 sticks and not push the memory controller with 4 sticks if i can find them. i also didn't push my dram volts up to 1.65 i set it to 1.62
I'm just testing to see if the cpu would work with the ram setting , i need this ram for another build.
here is a link to my bios settings.. if my idea here is wrong feel free to let me know..
updated!! (removed link to old bios setting)
i took the risk and ordered the gskill 2400 mhz ram (f3-2400c11d-16gxm) 11-13-13-31 timing at 1.65 v
prior to installing the ram i went back and started to put back my bios settings to figure out just what setting did the trick. i believe it was just i needed more voltage pushing my 1866 ram to get it to post o.c.at 2400 mhz.
i have installed the new ram and at the start it posted with 11-13-13-31 timing ( it wouldn't do that with the 1866 only at 10-12-12-31) i tightened the new ram to 10-12-12-31 and all is well. :)
i didn't edit the above link, only my bios settings due to the fact the above link mite help someone else with there issue. due to the fact "every setup is different"
I waited to re-post and run tests to make sure every thing was working along with the fact i changed up my overclocking by using the FBS more then the CPU multiplier.
here is a new link to my settings.. hope it helps someone.... it worked for me!
