Technically the 4300 can be better for some small games, however, background threads from the OS and other programs will make the 6300 better for pretty much everything else.

Games already use 6 cores, they just don't use the last 2 as much as the first 4.

The 4300 will not last long in modern gaming.

If you're building a new system, just get an Intel rig. If you're stuck on an AM3+ motherboard, the 6300 is about as good as it gets in practical terms.

+1 for this.

Unless you're on a tight budget, try to start with an i5 or FX 8320 and work up from there.

Depends on the game entirely. Bf4 multi-player will max out a G3258 easily, no matter what OC it's at, whereas with a decent i5 or better, you'll be pushed to max out a gtx970. On average, an i3 will choke the performance of a 970, its an off balance mix of weaker cpu vrs stronger gpu. A good balance would be a r9 270x or gtx 660ti with an i3, especially at 1080p/60Hz.

The pentium will not keep up with the GTX 970. It is an ok placeholder chip, but the i3 is superior. If you plan to upgrade to a better CPU, at a later date, the pentium is ok. If not, I would consider something like an i3/gtx 960 combo. They would match up far better than a Pentium, and GTX 970. A super fast GPU is pointless, if it is held back by the CPU used with it. Also, 4gb is not enough for a gaming rig. You really need at least 8gb, for a modern gaming rig. You are cutting too many corners, for a fast GPU, that will never see its full potential. Also a non modular PSU, in a mini itx case, is a bad idea. Here is something for you to consider.
