I have done a quick test between an FX5200 and an FX5600 and the 5200 is coming out ahead. Please help!

System Details
A78NX Deluxe/XP2500+
2 - Kingston 256MB DDR400 CL3

Video Cards
Asus V9520TD (FX5200 8x 128MB DDR) (Asus Driver)
PNY Verto 5600 (FX5600 Ultra 8x 128MB DDR) (Nvidia 52.16 driver)

When I fire up Quake 3A and run demo001 I get 229fps with the 5200 and 208fps with the 5600. Could the Asus driver have extra optimizations for OpenGL??? Are the PNY cards just crappy? It's just hard to take that my 5600 isn't fater in every way than the 5200.

Chances are that the PNY is underclocked with inferior memory.
Not sure though, if both are non-ultras that's damn peculiar.

Try upgrading driver on both to the current nvidia forceware driver (I've not updated my drivers in six months, i have no idea what the current version is.) If that doesn't solve the descrepancy I'd suspect perhaps cleve is right... or perhaps for some reason the pny is defaulting to agp 1x or 2x and the asus is running 4x or 8x

Take a look at this recent review (scroll down for the benchies).

The FX5600 should not lose to an FX5200, even in Q3.

PErhaps the FX5200 is 128bit and the FX5600 is a 64bit memory version. Otherwise I can't explain it. If it were an FX5200Ultra versus an FX5600, occsionally you will find cross over like this because of the way they are clocked (325mhz mem. on the FX5200Ultra versus 275mhz on the FX5600).

If it's an Fx5200Ultra perhaps, but that product name/number is for the non-ultra.

Do they have 64 bit 5600s?

I didn't think they did... but if they do, yeah, that would totally explain it.
