FX5800 Dusbuster Syndrome

Hey there... I have a Geforce FX5800, one of the ones with a dustbuster
attached as a fan. Don't worry, it's not one of the first ones where it
stays on all the time, just one that turns the fan on when it gets too hot
or I run a 3D app. Now then, I do a fair bit of 3D modeling and the noise is
beginning to get on my nerves. It always turns on when I'm working, but the
card is considerably cool... (Rated MAX is 140C and it's on 54C). Is there
anyway I can change it so the fan only comes on when the temperature hits
60C? Thanks for any help you can give!

What helps is to switch to an 5900 ... about as fast or faster and...
without dustbuster...

What makes you think that changing this to 60ºC will help, I would assume
the 54ºC reading is the temperature you get whilst the fan is merrily trying
to create a mini tornado anyway. If you managed to run this card and higher
the temperature that the fan kicks in at it might only delay it cranking up
by about a second anyway.

The work I do doesn't raise it that much (though I couldn't tell you what it
would go up to as the fan kicks in). But as I said, the card is rated up to
140C so I could easily set it to 80C say, the question is can you set the
fan to only turn on when it gets that hot?

The real question is, when you tool the temp reading was this during the 3D
work or normal desktop? If it was during the 3D work then you can be sure
that even if you was able to set the temp higher that temp would be reached
in no time at all. They say that the card is rated to that high temp
however I do not know of anyone who would be happy at running a card even
just over half that figure.

You say 140C max????
I don't think that sounds right and if it is I sure as hell
don't want something that hot in my box.
It will just heat up the rest of it........

My fx 5800 is silent because i attached a zalman heatpipe-sandwich on it.
Works very well and overclocked stable about 20 % for half a year now

I've seen those, what temperature does that keep it to?

That's what the temperature cut off is, can't say mine's ever gone above 70.
