so i recently switched from a gtx 750 ti to the r9 390 it performs better on most games but skyrim (favorite game) has weird frame rate dips usually when I'm inside only. when i play forest the frame rate is good but the textures in grass especially look terrible almost black? this isn't what i expected from a $300+ card. I've ordered a gtx 970 its on the way just wondering peoples thoughts? i know the fx 6300 isn't the strongest cpu but it didnt have any of these problems paired with gtx 750 ti? r9 390 has 8gb vram where gtx 970 only has 4 (3.5 really but whatever) so i don't know how i feel about possibly downgrading myself to the 970...... i'm very new to all of this so any advice would really help me out.

Solution
theres an issue where fx cpu's dont order the core sharing properly. try changing the affinity of skyrim to core 0 or 1.
it should help balance the load on the cpu and give smoother playback.

Probably it's a driver issue. First remove every piece of the Geforce old driver, then uninstall Crimson and install Catalyst 15.9.1. In older games, Catalyst performs better than Crimson.

hey guys thanks for replying. so i uninstalled all graphics drivers with a cleaning tool then went into hidden folders found some nvidea stuff hiding so got rid of that. pretty sure everything is gone now and reinstalled the crimson software but no real difference in performance. where do i go to change the affinity settings in skyrim? I've never heard of that before.

also id be suprised if the problem is on the cpu end of things just because this processor ran skyrim without a hitch using a gtx750ti. that was when it was stock speed to 1.4-4.1 now its OCed to 4.5 using a r9 390 and works like shit lol gotta love it! buildind computers is fun but its a love hate relationship sometimes.

Just try the AMD Catalyst 15.9.1 driver. Older games run better with Catalyst instead of Crimson.

open taskmanager, right click on the games exe and select affinity.
