Dear community,

I started this discussion. is it better to get an AMD fx 8320 with an SSD or an intel i5 4440 without SSD, for gaming performance.

From my point of view it's better to invest in a good base (intel CPU>outdated fx series) and invest in an ssd later on.

what's your take on this

I've gotten myself into a facebook discussion with 2 stuborn people who just wont listen while I'm trying to guide a guy to the best PC for the best price, I thought i'd open this on a respectable forum to support my case 😉

Well I own an AMD chip and I think it was a fantastic buy back in 2013 when i got it but we are now more than half way through 2015 the fx 8320 came out in 2012 that is really quite old for any piece of computer hardware. The fx chips perform admirably for their age but for gaming the i5 is best hands down in most games. And you wont be stuck on the dead AM3+ platform like me.

An ssd could help for load times between chapters but won't improve fps during actual gameplay. With the size some of these newer games are becoming, you might be lucky to fit a game or two alongside windows on a budget ssd drive. I'd opt for the intel for gaming performance and consider an ssd later on. I suppose it depends on the game, most of the ones I play the game is loading the next chapter while there's a cinematic yapfest going on and my 7200rpm hdd doesn't have much issue keeping up.

I myself had an fx 8320 and was happy with it. but I got my hands on an i7 4790k and I've got to say, the difference is bigger than one might expect, less fps drops, higher minimum fps etc.

the fx chips are good overclockers tho. but the fx series have served their purpose for now, good thing AMD is working on something new!
