Okay so I have a computer with a Phenom 2 black edition and my brothers new computer has the Fx8320. I built them both, but the trouble is... his temps and cpu fan rpms are higher than mine. I thought the 8320 was better then the phenom 2 and thus would be lower?

So to test, we both are playing fallout 3 (no mods and the only game on his pc) the fx build is played on a 48inch tv, and my phenom build is playing on a 23inch. Fps is maxed for fallout on both and everything on ultra. Where it says "max" on HWmonitor; The Phenom temp is 49c and 4500rpm fan. The FX temp is 51c and 5200rpm.

Any advice to test or remedy this would be appreciated.

You should take note that i also have 4 case fans. 2 x 12cm intakes on the front and side and 2 x 12cm exhaust fans on the back and top(I have a bottom mounted PSU). I do control them with a fan controller to reduce noise so they aren't spinning at full speed. I also have my CPU overclocked to 4Ghz.
The Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo CPU Cooler is very good value for money and is highly recommended on these forums.
My temperatures idle at around 30 degrees Celsius and at around 45 gaming. When i am encoding videos using all 8 cores at 100% load my temperature has gone up to 52 degrees Celsius after 30 minutes or so.
I hope that helps:)
Are you using stock coolers?
The AMD FX8320 stock cooler is terrible. I know i have the same CPU.
I have my 8320 overclocked to 4Ghz and I have lower temperatures than that using a Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo CPU Cooler.

Which Phenom II? That's a whole line of CPUs you're referring to, so it's hard pinpoint what CPU you're referring to. Usually, the FX series has slightly lower TDP than the Phenom II series anyway, but it depends on the CPU. It also depends on other factors, such as quality of the CPU HSF, how many case fans you have, and even the placement of your PC. Seemingly minor differences in atmospheric temperature can make quite a big difference on the temperatures of your PC.

Thanks for the replies guys.

I have the Phenom 2 x4 black edition. We both have the same case. 3 120mm fans' one in front, one on top and one on the top back. Jay (ironically my brothers name also) How's that fan working out for you? We're thinking about getting it. If you don't mind what kind of temp readings do you get on stressful tasks such as games and/or editing?

I have the same setup as jay - CM Hyper 212 EVO and the FX 8320. Mine is overclocked a little higher though (4.2).

Core:
Idle: 13C
Gaming: 30-40C
100% Load: ~50C

Socket:
Idle: 30C
Gaming: 47C
Load: ~60C

^From memory, it might be a little different either way.

Cool. So based off those readings his temps are like 5-10 degrees higher with the stock fan, which seems reasonable and that I shouldn't think it's a faulty cpu/heatsink. Also the build has the same mobo/gpu/psu as yours. I think I'm gonna get a couple of them. only$25 on amazon. It's worth it.

Edit: when I said "same" I was referring to Jook-d
