G.Skill 1600Mhz DDR3 @ 1333Mhz?

Hi, I'm new. How's things?
I know this has probably been asked before but I couldn't find a post. I am trying to get G.Skill 2x4GB running at 1600Mhz on a MSI B85-G43 mobo. Using Intel G3258 3.2Mhz CPU.
I have XMP enabled and it reports correct config but I cannot select 1600Mhz from 'DRAM Frequency'. CPU-Z is reporting as 1333Mhz (667mhz) under 'Memory' and correct timings are listed in the table under 'SPD'.
Anyone have any ideas how I can set this RAM to run at 1600Mhz?

Try, entering DRAM voltage, timings, and frequency manually using values shown in CPU-Z above. Note there are two lots of settings for 1600 MHz operation, JEDEC #6 and XMP-1600. Try both lots of settings if necessary, and note for JEDEC #6 settings that the Command Rate should be 1 (not shown on CPU-Z).

If there are problems entering values manually, try loading BIOS Defaults and try again.

Yes, jsmith00075 is correct in that the G3258 CPU basically runs at 1333 MHz and supports up to 1333 MHz DDR3 DIMM's.

However. There seem to be two options to ensure the system runs the memory at 1600 MHz -

1) Overclock the G3258 CPU a little, by setting CPU Ratio Mode to Fixed (or to Dynamic), and then increasing the CPU Ratio multiplier (a little) under Adjust CPU Ratio in BIOS under OC menu; other settings left alone, for now. NOTE: it is not entirely clear what overclocking features are available on the B85-G43 motherboard. If it is not possible to change the CPU frequency in BIOS, then option two should be considered.

2) Install a CPU that natively supports 1600 MHz without overclocking; such as - the G3420 or i3-4130 CPU and up.

I've been looking into overclocking using this mobo and people have posted saying that Intel have called for OC to be disabled on 'B-' boards. I have the latest rev. of the BIOS and there is no option to adjust CPU Ratio. It's set to 'Auto' and it doesn't seem possible to change it (nothing happens when I select it). So, I'll try changing RAM timings manually if I can.

So apparently I need to update to a custom BIOS to enable OC. Is this safe? I've never updated to a non-OEM BIOS before. I download the file from the link below but I'm afraid to use it.

Possibly. You take your chances using "customized" BIOS as it is not an official release and is not guaranteed to work.
