Hello,
I am an old school system builder and have been out or it for a while. I needed to replace a system and researched to finally settle on these components. I chose the Sempron because it said the SB on the Asrock would unlock the second core too a Athlon II X2 4450e. It does this just fine but screws up the settings for the ram and is unstable. I went back to the sempron and oc'ed to 2873 and it is stable but won't let me select the pc12800 ram setting. I have it at PC3-10700 (667) mhz stable.

I would like to run it as a Athlon II X2 4450e and the ram at 800 mhz but i dont know the settings to acccomplish this. I think I just need a nudge in the right direction re basic Bios settings. Any help would be appreciated. thanks.

I've never had much luck setting the timings in manual mode. I always use auto for the timings and set the speed in manual mode. You can try changing the ram voltage up or down and see if that makes any difference. With my sempron 140 single core (the second core is bad), I set the ram speed to 1066, disabled spread spectrum, and set the cpu fsb at 250 and the overclock is stable, but my internet speed didn't change much, so I set it back to default.

I found this article and it really cleared things up for me. i now have a clue about all the technical terms that were gibberish before. i plan on printing this and making a list of each term and where it applies so i can intelligently play with this and have good results. does your mobo have a 700 south bridge or higher? Without that the sempron won't open the 2nd core. Thanks for the nudge. It pushed me into this search. good luck.
