The memory controller is 6 six (hexa) channel so you need to put in 6 dimms to get optimal performance.

Might as well buy them all at once in a kit.

The only real question is do you want the 48 gigabyte kit or a higher one.

Because you are going to pay a high premium for cute and shiney. So I'm just curious how many people are willing to pay that for a minimum on 6 sticks of memory. Honestly I really don't think anyone spending 3K on a CPU is doing it for fun or gaming so they don't care what the memory looks like.
