Hello,

I have been yesterday reading a lot here in tomshardware but also in the G.Skill forum, and I tried many failed combinations.

Hardware
I am a bit crazy about the 1866 Mhz. I have this computer:

  • - CPU AMD FX 8350 8 cores @ 3.2Ghz
    - Motherboard Gigabyte 990FXA-UD3 R5 (latest BIOS F2)
    - Memory G.Skill (4x8GB) DDR3 1866 Mhz 32GXM (so, 2 dual channel) Timings 9-10-9-28
I only get 1333Mhz by default.

Status

  • BCLK 200.90 Mhz
    CPU Freq 3214.00 Mhz
    Memory Freq 1339.88Mhz
    Memory Size 32768MB
    CPU Temp 20ºC
    VCore 1.284V
    Dram Volt 1.488V
    CPU Vcore 1.27500V
    Dynamic Vcore (DVID) + 0.00000V
    NB core 1.17500V
Dynamic NB Core (NB DVID) +0.00000V
DRAM Voltage 1.5V (although in the other part it, in the status it says the real is 1.488V)
    DRAM Termination 0.750V
    HT Link Voltage 1.200V
    NB/PCIe/PLL Voltage 1.800V
    CPU PLL Voltage 2.500V
    NB Voltage 1.100V
    Vcore Loadline Calibration +100%

Tests
I have tried multiple configurations:

  • - XMP Profile 1
    - XMP Profile 2
    - manually setting 1866Mhz
    - also trying 1600Mhz
    - increasing the NB Voltage to 1.2 and even 1.25
    - increasing the DRAM voltage to 1.515, 1.55 and even 1.6
    - setting manually 1.5V
    - setting manually the timings that are by default detected correctly
    - mixing previous combinations like: XMP Profile 1 + NB Voltage to 1.2, XMP Disabled + Manually 1600Mhz + DRAM voltage to 1.515, etc

I am just trying to increase the memory speed, not the CPU speed, but if it were necessary I would do it.

I have read tons of posts of different threads and forums.

Voltage
I have to say that by default I get only DRAM 1.488V, and the only way to get DRAM 1.5V in the MIT STATUS of the Gigabyte is by setting the DRAM to 1.515V, but leaving the XMP disabled and setting the speed to just 1333Mhz. If I tried in the next reboot to increase the speed to 1600 or 1866 after being sure that the current DRAM voltage is 1.5V, it fails and it is resetted to 1.488V and the speed goes down to 1333Mhz.

Other tests
I did some tests to be sure it works correctly under other combinations:
Dual Channel A combining three different pairs: it always get 16GiB at 1866Mhz with XMP Profile 1 (I did not try Profile 2 but It would work the same).

So, apparently the cards are OK.

Thank you in advance! ;)

Thanks,

I have increased the NB Core up to 1.3V (1.2, 1.225 and 1.5V tried, too) and setting:

  • - XMP Profile 1
    - Disable Profile but setting manually 1866 Mhz
    - Disable Profile but setting manually 1600 Mhz (trying to see at least this freq)
    - Also, increasing the DRAM up to 1.6V
And still nothing.

When setting "disabled" and 1600 Mhz, the timings are modified to 9-9-9-24. When setting Profile 1 1866 they are again to 9-10-9-28 automatically (these timings appear in the labels of the memory slots)

It is important to do OC to the CPU to be able to increase the DRAM speeds (e.g. increase to 3.6/4Ghz)? Or they are independent?

What is the maximum voltage that I should put in NB Core to be free of burning someting?

I will take pictures, but so far nothing, and I tried many combinations.

Today I achieved the 1600 Mhz, but I needed to do some manual settings:
- VCore 1.35V (default 1.275)
- NB Core 1.35V (default 1.175V)
- DRAM voltage 1.6V (default 1.5V)
- CPU NorthBridge Frequency 2600 Mhz (default 2200 Mhz)
- XMP Disabled, manually to 1600 Mhz
- Timings manually setting 9-10-9-28 (like the Slots says)

Also, I don't feel comfortable toggling or increasing the voltages, because I don't know what could happen. Also, during some tests to achieve the previous configuration I got a computer completely blocked and needed to clear the CMOS a couple of times.

Can you guess something with this tests?
