Hello,

I'm currently buying parts for my first build. During the holiday sale I jumped on some cheaper than normal parts and bought the G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 8GB DDR3 1600

as seen here: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231428

because it was on sale. Only now did I realise that it was was specially designed for intel boards, but I am getting and AMD processer. I am still looking for a motherboard and am wondering If anyone would know if this board

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=13-128-510&SortField=0&SummaryType=0&Pagesize=100&PurchaseMark=&SelectedRating=-1&VideoOnlyMark=False&VendorMark=&IsFeedbackTab=true&Keywords=%28keywords%29&Page=1#scrollFullInfo

will function with my ram as it is not listed on the compatability list.

It is listed on the compatability list of the asus M5a97

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131767

but only as a 1333 RAM. I am not too familiar with the specifics of these things, especially when it comes to motherboards and RAMS. Would anyone know which board is better of the two, or if there is another board I should look at? (I prefer to keep it under $140)

Thanks.

That RAM should work fine on just about any DDR3 motherboard. On Intel boards you can set XMP ( Xtreme memory profile ) and it will set the timings for you. On an AMD board you will have to set the speed/timings and maybe voltage manually in BIOS.

I have used GSkill Ripjaws ( not necessarily that kit ) in pretty much in every computer I have built for the last few years both AMD and Intel and have never had a problem getting it to work at advertised speed and timings.

GSkill Ripjaws actually fits ( barely ) under my huge Scythe Mugen 2. The taller heatspreaders on Corsair's Vengence series can be an issue with some coolers but the Ripjaws usually fits, at least I have not heard of a cooler you can't use it with.

Must be tight : )

Thanks for the replies,

I was probably going to get the cooler master hyper 212. It seems like its a proven cooler with a lot of good reviews. I have the phenom II 955 and I most likely wont Overclock or anything, at least not until I become more familiar with all of that stuff. That should fit fine right?
