Any reason you want it set to 120 instead of 144?
I found G-Sync to be a little finicky with my PG279Q if set to anything other than native refresh rate.
Most of games reach 120fps at 2k, but 144 it's pretty hard. And I don't even know if gsync works because it doesnt cap the games at the same fps as the refresh rate. Is there any way to check if it works?
Thanks for your answer.
The simple way to check it if the monitor is running in G-Sync mode is to have a look at the Power LED.
If its Red, G-sync is on. If its White, it's not.
As for capping framerate, V-sync must also be enabled in conjunction with G-sync to do it. Without it, G-sync will only match your refresh rate to your FPS output if it remains below the maximum. After the maximum (144+), it will be disabled.
Simply apply V-sync globally using the Nvidia CP (don't worry, you dont get any of the issues associated with V-sync with g-sync enabled).
If I were you Id run your monitor at 144hz, and then use a program like Rivatuner to cap FPS at 120. In most games that I cant run at 100fps+ the whole time, I cap them at 90fps to stop any wild spikes, and it works perfectly.
