G-Sync is not working as advertised

I have a G-Sync enabled monitor (Acer XB240H), and a compatible nvidia graphics card. In the nVidia control panel, G-Sync is enabled, but when I go in-game, the frame rate goes above the advertised "144 hz limit", and I am experiencing screen tearing. Any help in solving this issue will be greatly appreciated, thanks!

I forgot to say this, (and its probably obvious, given the model of the monitor) but this IS over displayport, not hdmi, dvi, vga, or anything like that

In more recent drivers, there is an option to use V-sync past 144hz or not. You may have it set to not use V-sync when going outside the boundaries of G-sync.

There is an option to force G-Sync to default to VSync if you hit the upper ceiling of your refresh rate. This was the default behavior of G-Sync prior to the update that made it optional.
