I have a gtx 1070 and looking to upgrade my monitor (running 24" 1080 144hz).
I've been looking at the 34" ultrawides. In my price range of ~$800 I found 2 monitors at microcenter for $850 & $890 which are pushing what I wanted to spend.

The main difference that I really notice is the resolution. 1080 vs 1440. And g-sync.
Is g-sync worth dropping resolution? Is g-sync even necessary for a gtx 1070 @ 1080p?
From what I've seen my gtx1070 should run 1440 just fine.

Mostly for games (bf4, Stellaris, Diablo 3, Fallout, etc), web surfing, word processing and some movies. No production type stuff or serious work.

Input appreciated.

thing is g-stink is NVidia card only so you pay that extra $$ foir that privilege and say you decide to go AMD card now it something you got and paid for that useless ? [gimmick]

may as well get a monitor that does a good job with out there gimmickware at there added cost for it [opinion]

I agree, however it isn't a gimmick. It's just overpriced and too picky about compatibility.

Yeah, I'm pushing it with the $899 one.
I am familiar with the X34. Love to get one. I had found some refurb but they are out of them right now :(

No worries on the derail. It really wasn't since that is part of my question ...
Is g-sync worth giving up resolution?

I ended up getting the x34 Predator. 1440 with g-sync for about $950. A tad over budget but I used my birthday as an excuse
