g3258 cpu cold boot time with 840 EVO

What is the cold boot to desktop on win-7 home premium with a g3258 on a Z87 board?

friend wants me to build an ultra cheap intel pc with the 840 evo for browsing the net and youtube hd videos and he was hoping on getting 15 sec cold boot like I get on my z97 i5 pc.

He doesn't want a graphic card, nothing, just a fast and cheap web browsing pc playing casino games on facebook etc.with fast boot times and instant browser loading. I'm hoping I told him the right thing in that the SSD mostly makes all the difference and 8GB of ram wouldn't hurt for the rest.

If any of you have budget build suggestions for something like this, I'm all ears!

its going to be very similar to your setup. really comes down to how long whatever motherboard you choose takes to do its boot post, then usually after that its about 8-10 seconds to desktop counting right before the windows colored balls start swirling on screen.

4gb is plenty, he can upgrade another 4gb stick later if he wants. consider the crucial mx100 since its cheaper and slightly faster than the 840 evo in most drive benchmarks while having the same warranty and high quality build like samsung or intel.

thanks. I'm not familiar which budget board would do a fast boot post, any ideas? As long as the board is reliable, stable and cheap, I'm in. OK, 4GB makes sense to me if he doesn't need more, why not as he can always add it later. Will look into the mx100 as well, thanks.

yeah i wouldn't know boot post times either

just get the msi h81m-p33 since its what most everybody buys for the g3258 to overclock on a budget, its very inexpensive.

if you have a local micro center there going his gpu and z97 msi mb full size combo for 99.00 this month. for price the h97 is better buy then the older 87 chipset. it let your friend with a bios update drop in a brodwell cpu in a few years if he gets into gaming.

damn, thats a steal. if you do live near one that would be the better deal. microcenter has special in store pricing from intel that nobody can beat.

if your wants small foot print have hims spend a little more on an itx system. the mb I listed has built in wifi and bluetooth so he wont need any extra cards to plug in. with a small foot print he can use this system also as a htpc pc and stream movies from net to his tv. also he could plug the pc into his tv.

for the price i would go with the antec vp450 power supply. it is by far the most reliable and quality built power supply in its wattage range and price. i just dont trust budget power supplies. unless you can find the xfx 550w for a good price which ive seen come on sweet deals. but canada prices are different so i dont know.

and he doesn't need high speed gaming quality wifi, any $10 usb wifi dongle will do more than fine for streaming.
