Most of those boards can use 2 gb per slot; getting performance ram won't help an oem board with fixed ram timings that aren't adjustable; get matched pairs of pc6400 for a total of 8 gb. I would look for some used on craigslist if you can. If you are using 32 bit windows, save your money. Getting more ram is a waste of money since 32 bit windows will only recognize about 3.25 gb of ram with onboard video.

The vostro 200 will NOT support more than 1gb per slot for a max of 4gb. I have one with the g33m02 and have looked everywhere for the 1.0.18 bios that will allow 8gb to no avail. it seems this version of bios is not compatible with the vostro desktop, only the insperion 530, even tho it has the same g33m02 main board. NOTE: Foxconn now classifies these boards (g33m02 & g33m03) as a g33m. THEY ARE DIFFERENT! If i am wrong someone PLEASE tell me where to find the 1.0.18 bios update for the VOSTRO 200. Dell support brought me up to 1.0.16 and i did a search for the 1.0.18, when attempting to install i receive an error "this bin is not supported or intended for this motherboard". so i broke down and since this MB does not offer overclocking, I bought an e7600 with a 266 FSB and 11.5 multiplier for 3.07 GHz Then BSEL modded it to 333 FSB Bringing me to 3.83Gz with 4gb Mushkin ddr2 800mhz ram with 4,4,4,12 and ran Prime95 for 24 hours 100% stable! So i still had fun like i was over clocking :)

IMO: 1 specific series of ddr2 G. Skill is the best because of the low timing (4,4,3,5!) but good luck finding it as it hasn't been produced for years, and Mushkin #2 at 4,4,4,12
My setup:
Machine name: VOSTRO 200
Operating System: Windows XP home Service Pack 3
BIOS: Phoenix - 1.0.18
Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU E7600 @ 3.83GHz (dual core)
Cooling : Cooler Master hyper 212 plus
Memory: 4GB High Performance RAM
PSU: STOCK! 300W ATX
GPU: EVGA GeForce 9500GT 1GB, .825 GHz core clock, 1.95 GHz Shader, .6 GHz Memory Clock

And yes, this was my first ever "build"
