I bought a g400 sony because it has great picture but also because it could the 1280x1024 at 100. No matter what drivers i use for the monitor and the graphic card i cant do over 85. I have a tbird 800 @880, MSI turbo-r mobo and a voodoo 3 3500 using the voodoofiles.com drivers. Is this a vga card limitation or a monitor problem?

Thanks

Both! The g400 is a 107Khz monitor, theoretical (calculated) limit is 99Hz at 1280 x 1024. Since 1280 x 1024 at 100Hz is not a VESA standard odds are it is not programmed into the monitor's memory. Also the plug and play information in the monitor may tell the OS the limits of resolution and refresh rate. On the other side you have the same problem. Since this is a NON-standard resolution the video card does not know the timing parameters to send to the monitor.

Good Luck

I have a nice sticker in my monitor from SONY that writes "Ergonomic resolution - 1280 x 1024 @101". I am going to buy a Radeon 64mb DDR this week and if i still have 85 max i am going to slap some SONY people.....

I have the e400, and it'll do 1280x1024 @ 85Hz. I'm fairly sure the only difference between the E and the G versions are the refresh rates at 1600x1200, where the G will do 85Hz and the E will only do 75Hz.

just my 2 cents.
