G430 Headset's Surround Sound Doesn't Work with Sound Blaster Recon3Di

I own a Logitech G430 Headset, which supports 7.1 Surround Sound from Dolby and DTS. I also own a Gigabyte Z170X-Gaming 7, which has 5.1 Surround Sound and "AMP-UP Audio Technology." I had been using the USB connector for the headset and using the surround sound. However, this does not take advantage of all the sound features that are only for the rear panel audio. If I plug the headset into those jacks, however, Logitech Gaming System doesn't recognize the headset, which means that I can't use any surround sound. I guess my question is if there is any way to get 5.1 Surround Sound in the headset or 7.1 Surround Sound in the Motherboard/Audio Hardware/Audio Software. I am relatively new to audio and surround sound; please let me know if I'm being stupid. I'm just trying to get the best combination of audio quality and surround sound, as I am a music fan and a gamer.

Alternatively, if I use the USB connection does that actually use 7.1?

Well the whole surround on headphones is a bit of a misconception, there are very few actual 5.1+ surround headphones since the drivers are so small there is no quailty output from them. The large majority are simple stereo L+R with virtual surround modes.

The Logitech software is only going to recognize the Logitech USB sound card, not your on board sound - that will be managed in your sound control panel and the SBX software.

I had the G430, the usb surround on it was quite good IMO for games and movies no doubt. Since then I have upgraded to a Sound Blaster Play!3 and I do much prefer the SBX surround it does give you much more control. Since you can't use both just pick one and run with it, based on my experience I would say...

If you stick with the on-board and you don't have anything else logitech you can remove the software, one less thing running.

Thanks! There's a lot of great information in there. I'll definitely have to try out the SBX. I also have the G502 and G410 so I won't be getting rid of LGS any time soon.
