Hi,

I recently purchased the new G5 series laptop from Dell, with 128gb ssd and a 1tb HDD (5400rpm) drive.
Unsurprisingly the 128 is almost full so I was thinking of changing the HDD to an external and adding a 500gb SSD. I will be using the computer for ArcGIS and gaming.

Is this a good idea? If so for the sake of £100 extra should I just get a 1tb SSD? I have just purchased the computer so the HDD is empty. Should I just leave it as is or would it be best to convert?

Thanks for all the help, am a newbie when it comes to all this lark.

Either that or just not use the 128 GB SSD...keep the HDD internal....and buy a 500GB SSD to replace the 128 GB one. Are you really going to use the 128GB SSD after you buy something like a 500-1000GB one?

I am about to purchase the same laptop and the first thing i plan to do is swap out the SSD to a larger, faster one. As long as you have access to the media to re-install the OS and apps, i'd say it isn't a bad way to go. I figure Dell will add so much bloatware that i'll be reinstalling the OS when the box gets here.
