My friend come to me with some old PC. It wasn't booting. I saw that south bridge was simply burned. Sticker on it was brown. Inside was K6-2 400 cpu, 1x32MB and 1x64MB SDRAM. He told me to reanimate some how this PC until he will get something faster.

On eBay for socket7 i found only GA-586TX. It use FSB 66 MHz but Pc will be available to work.

Now i have problem.

Using this manual:
http://www.motherboards.org/files/manuals/47/586tx3_1_2.pdf

i set dip switches to positions:
1 off
2 off
3 off
4 off
5 ON
6 off
7 ON
8 ON

and inserted only 32MB in slot which manual says. PC boot up, make full RAM test to end, and reboot. When i press pause, it stops. And he can stay like this. When i press again enter or DEL, he ends test and reboot again. I thought it was bad slot or memory stick. When i try to boot it up on other slots its making the same thing or don't stand up and beeps all time.

The same thing is with 64MB memory.

Any idea :(

wow people are still using these huh, brings back memories!

Anyway, i cant see where you got those switch settings from, even if you manually calculate the multiplier (or rather use the maximum available because 66*6 doesnt even exist) then it doesnt use them.

I'd set it up as a K6 233 with a 3.5 multiplier off of 66MHz bus speed and see if it works. The CPU will happily downclock and you'll at least get the thing working. The switch settings for this as i can see are just sw4 and sw7 ON, the rest off. I dont know why you have SW8 on?

My apologies I've just read much further down the section on switches for the frequency ratios.

Still, stick with what I recommended above and see how it goes. The 5.5 multiplier seems a non-stock configuration for any of the supported processors. Plus, you had the CPU running at 3.0V, I dont know what the recommended voltage for the K6 at 400MHz is but it was undervolting for the multiplier you had set anyway.

I've setted 3V because it's writhed on CPu to set like that ;)

standard FSB x mlutipliyer for 400's are very simple ;) 100x4 ;)

I haven't thought about to set it like that :p i will give some information morning ;)

BTW

I'm not using this s..... :p I have 3 other PC's. First is oldest Celeron 1,2@1,6. Then is my Notebook with Celeron M 1,5. And 'newest' Venice 3000+ 1,8@2,6 Gf6800GT 350/1000@420/1113 and 1GB RAM

EDIT//

I tried to set multiplier to x4 and FSB to 60 and 66. The same ;( boot, memory test, one second of black screen and beep :\ But what is interesting. Even when i set up FSB to 60, on bios start screen i still se 66.

I have no idea what it can be ;( it should run as 240MHz or 264Mhz ;(

I know that it doesn't support 100MHz, but why it isn't running even on 4x66 or 4x60? It should, right? ;)
