GA-78LMT-USB3 rev 5.0 ram compatibility

i cant tell if i can run two 4gb sticks of ddr3 or if i have to run a single stick at 8gb please help here is compatibility list for us only http://download.gigabyte.us/FileList/Memory/mb_memory_ga-78lmt-usb3.pdf

the support list only has 8gb sticks though so can i run 2 4gb sticks or does it have to be a 8gb stick

Maybe they only tested 8gb sticks. Contact Gigabyte to clarify.

You can use either or 1x8 works and 2x4 works. I'm pretty sure 2x8 works too, since the board supports 32gb total. You want two sticks anyways though for dual channel mode. I have my board using 2x4 at 2136mhz.

do you have the same mobo?
and did you look at the compatability list?

I have the same motherboard and yes I've looked at the compatability list. The list is not a full explaination of the way AM3+ memory controller works. The cpu has the memory controller in it. The FX series chips support natively upto 1866. The older phenom line only supported upto 1333 or something. Although the chips will work to much higher clocks, it's technically overclocking. Someone else got his 6300 to handle 2400mhz ddr3 just fine. There's a lot more to it but I'm not here to explain it all because I don't know.
