I have a GA-7N400 Pro motherboard, XP3200 CPU, FX5200 AGP graphics and two
IDE Hard drives (40gb and 80gb). Windows XP Home ................All is
working fine.
I have decided to replace my two IDE Hard Drives with a SATA ( Maxtor
160GB).
When installing the Windows XP Home (using F6 etc) the system hangs for over
a minute after the PCI Devices Listing............It says "Verifying DMI
Pool Data" ...........after a minute it will then boot up normally. I have
done a search re the DMI and tried a few things all to no avail.
I then saw on the Maxtor website
(http://maxtor.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/maxtor.cfg/php/enduser/popup_adp.php?p_s
id=KQDn2whh&p_lva=887&p_li=&p_faqid=1044&p_created=1020905052) about the
exact problem I am having.

It gives a couple of suggestions to resolve it. (I have copied it at the
bottom)

Most of it is straight forward but a couple of things that I do not
understand is "Ensure the LBA Mode option is
enabled".......................what is that and where do I find it?
The other thing I cannot seem to find or know how to do it is where it says
"Disable both the Internal and External CPU Cache.".

Any assistance/advice/help would be gratly appreciated

Thanks

Allan

Allen,

You did not mention your BIOS SATA settings in ' Integrated Periferals'.
This board/BIOS is very bad about forgetting the boot sequence you put in..
Sounds like it is looking arount for a the MBR.

I had the boot sequence as 1st CDROM 2nd SCSI 3rd Nothing and
SATA/RAID/SCSI set to SATA

does that make sense

Yes, that makes sense.
However, with your particular annoyance, consider putting the CDROM last as
it takes time to search through these devices look for the Operating System.
My settings are:
1st Drive A as I use DOS mode routinely.
2nd SCSI the mormal mode of operation.
3rd CD ROM allowing for boot from the Windows XP CD.

Now look in your BIOS at "Integrated Peripherals".
' Onboard H/W Serial ATA' should be Enabled ( the default value).
'Serial ATA Function' should be set to 'BASE' ( not the default value).

Very similar setup to mine, but can you tell me how you managed to get the
3200 cpu working correctly?
