Athlon xp3200
2*512 OCZ eb RAM
40gig IBM (c) pri ma
Pioneer slot DVD rom (d) pri sl
LG DVD writer 8* (e) sec ma
Samsung 160 GB (f) sec sl

I'm long overdue for a reformat of C (isn't XP much more forgiving?) and
have read a few threads here about how a sundcard is preferable as on-board
sound uses system resources whereas a soundcard has it's own. I've use the
onboard sound without issue for 2 yrs now but I want to squeeze every last
bit of performance from this setup before going to a 64bit system.

I have a perfectly good Turtle Beach soundcard in a cupboard, should I
install it and disable on-board sound for better overall performance?

Thanks.

So it uses 'resources'....

What KIND of 'resources' are you concerned about?

I would be VERY surprised if one could even MEASURE any difference in
'performance' ( and performance of what - background/forground CPU
load? Video Perf? HD Perf?) LET ALONE 'feel'/sense any difference.

Personally, unless there is an AUDIBLE differnce in going with a
separate/add-in card that you like, OR there is some functional
difference (HW or SW) that you like/want, etc. I would go with
whatever is most convenient which means I would prob. user the
on-baord sound HW.
