I currently have a 3.60 gigahertz AMD FX-4100 Quad-Core on a GA-880GM-USB3 v.1 is there a better/faster CPU I can use or do I need the change my board

The http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=3412#ov lacks heatsinks on it's VRMs, so I would not want to run more than a FX4xxx on it. While the FX6xxx or FX8xxx may fit in the socket, I would expect to find thermal throttling during intense gaming.

If you want to stay with AMD, you will need to wait for over a year for Zen to come out.
If you want to upgrade sooner, I would strongly recommend an Intel solution.

The AMD FX-6300 3500MHz Vishera 95W (Since BIOS version FFe) may be a good choice.

I stand by my advice. It may fit (not might) but the VRMs and lack of heatsinks are very liable to cause thermal throttling and the OP will be out money and with very little performance improvement, so I cannot recommend the FX6300 for that motherboard.

And I really can't recommend getting a FX8320 and a new motherboard either at the current state of the market.

I was also asking for the same Fx6300 vs Fx8350 in this forum. I have received positive advice about the Fx6300 but not for the FX8350 (because of the 125w makes difficult to handle for this MOBO). The FX6300 is listed on Gigabyte web site as compatible with this MOBO. The FX835 is not. But the doubt remains: could we use ether with a nice heatsink?

I have a nice CM V8 heatskink. Do you think the thermal issues will remain with such a heat dissipation system? thanks
