i have the GA-965G-DS3 Motherboard, and i ordered some on sale (reduced something like $90) crucial balistix 1066 ram. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820148069 I later found out that the motherboard doesnt support anything higher than ddr2 800 (great....). Anyway i got a couple questions, first, HOW can you raise the voltage to 2.2 (the rating on the ram) and achieve the 1066 speed the ram is rated for. And is this dangerous for this particular motherboard. I dont want to overclock the ram higher than its rated for, i just want to you what i bought to the full speed it was built for. (ps. i know virtually NOTHING about overclocking, im looking for someone to explain the method if possible)

Also completely off topic question but, is the motherboard stated above compatible with vista? The vista upgrade adviser couldnt tell me, and i cant find a clear cut answer anywhere. (thinking of upgrading to vista soon)

if it matters heres a quick hardware list

GA-965G-DS3
intel 6600 conroe
evga 7950 gt ko superclocked graphics
x-fi extreem gamer sound
zalman 9500 heatsink
2 gigs crucial balistix ddr2 1066 2.2v (operating at ddr2 800, 1.8v)
7200 rpm western digital hard drive

That system will run Vista but no sure why you'd want to given the driver problems and MS is coming out with Vista SP1, just sent it out for Beta testing. If the board is designed for 1066, you're likely SOL in terms of running it at that. You can change the Voltage in the BIOS but be very careful, especially if you're not sure of what you're doing

yeah im not one to overclock, if i try it, il have it done by a computer professional my family knows, i just wanted to know the implications of having it done, and whether it even CAN be done

and the reason i need to get vista is my OEM xp disk from new egg is buggy as anything, windows media player has a couple glitches, windows wont recognize my drive as a burner (even tho everything else does, and the last computer it was in did), and a few other problems, which make me downloading and burning music a royal pain

Given you have a family friend that's an IT professional, you should talk with him about this including your XP problems
