I installed EasyTune5 from the CD that came with my motherboard and checked the hardware settings. I now see the following under PC Heatth|Hardware Monitor: Fans - CPU RED Alert, RPM @ 802; PW! 1 & Syetem RED Alert, RPM @ 0

Now, I also have Everest Ultimate Edition 2006 and it reports that all is fine (temp and fans).

So... shall I assume that the EasyTune5 is inaccurate? What am I missing?

My system:

CPU: AMD Athlon 64 X2 4600+, 2400 MHz (12 x 200)
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-M59SLI-S5 w/nVIDIA nForce 590 SLI

BIOS: Award Modular (06/19/06)
Video: BFG - NVIDIA GeForce 7950 GT OC (w/512 MB DDR3)
Case: Antec 900-series
PSU: Thermaltake "Thoughpower" 650W, model W0128RU
Main HDD: WDC WD740ADFD-00NLR1 "Raptor" (74 GB, 10,000 RPM SATA-II)

The fans that are reporting 0 rpm - can you see them spinning? There's your answer.

Let's see... I have the CPU fan which is spinning yet I still have a RED alert.

For the two others, I assume that the motherboard is not detecting them as I do have the Antec 900-series case with one large top fan, two front fans and one rear fan. The PSU's fan is also spinning.

Everest Ultimate Edition 2006 reports as follows:

Sensor Properties:
Sensor Type ITE IT8716F (ISA 290h)
GPU Sensor Type Driver (NV-DRV)
Motherboard Name Gigabyte M59SLI Series

Temperatures:
CPU 31 °C (88 °F)
CPU #1 / Core #1 36 °C (97 °F)
CPU #1 / Core #2 39 °C (102 °F)
GPU 46 °C (115 °F)
Seagate ST3300622AS 28 °C (82 °F)
WDC WD740ADFD-00NLR1 24 °C (75 °F)
Cooling Fans:
CPU 798 RPM

Voltage Values:
CPU Core 1.34 V
+3.3 V 3.31 V
+12 V 11.71 V
+5 V Standby 4.97 V
VBAT Battery 3.06 V
DIMM 1.84 V

Sounds like a sensor problem to me. Why don't you try Speedfan? Once you get it configured, it should be more accurate because it allows you to tweak the settings for your exact configuration. It takes some fiddling, though.

I assume none of your fans are on a manual fan controller? If so, you may want to disable the fan controller in BIOS. May be it's causing a conflict.
I run almost the same set up with the same chip, board.
