my friends 8800gts for the time being
I got my antec 300 today so I put everything together and got some rather frustrating results.
I did not order a new dvd drive because the ide one in my old system worked fine, and I was going to use my spare 80gb ide hdd until my western digital black 640gb drive gets here in a few days. So dvd drive and 80gb hdd on same ide ribbon each with own power connector as the second connector on the string going to the dvd drive had my case fans on it.
So, everything hooked up fine, powered on fine first try, posted, got to screen that said insert system disc and hit enter, i had a windows 7 disc in the dvd drive so i hit enter. and it tried and came up with nothing like there was no disc and just wouldn't do anything. Then i tried to eject the tray and no joy, the dvd drive was unresponsive, I also realized my power LED for my case went off when i tried to eject? but it was clearly still on.. and the power button no longer was responsive. So i turned it off via the switch on the psu and unplugged the drive and it booted to ubuntu (what was on the hard drive at that point) and it worked fine. But I have had no luck at all getting the dvd drive to work/install 7. when i had the dvd drive plugged in with no disc in it, it would not just boot the hdd to unbuntu.
So I decided to check the boot order and went into the BIOS, the boot order was default at (floppy>ls120>hard disc) no dvd drive on the list, so i set it to (cd>hard disc>unused) and saved and exited, and once I exited the BIOS the monitor would go to power save mode with no response.. and the power LED would turn off again leaving the front panel power button unresponsive..
So I don't know what to think of all this, is it the mother board? or the psu? anyone have any thoughts?
Thanks,
Jeremy
