Right now I'm building a computer for a friend and I've come across a problem that's bugging me a little. He specified all the components and I had a glance over them to see whether they'd all be compatible, and didn't see a problem.

The relevant parts are the following:

GA-PA65-UD3-B3
2 * Komputerbay 8GB (2 X 4GB) DDR3 DIMM (240 pin) 1333Mhz PC3 10600 / PC3 10666 8-8-8-24 1.5v 8 GB KIT (total 16 GB RAM)

The computer works fine with two 4 GB modules installed in a dual channel configuration. However, when I add the other two modules for a total of 16 GB of memory, the computer doesn't boot up at all. The fans start up for about a second or two and then the computer restarts. I've tried with 12 GB or RAM too, but this had the same undesired effect. I have of course tried swapping around the modules and putting them in different slots and I haven't identified any problems with either the slots on the motherboard or the modules themselves.

This has all led me to believe that it's probably some kind of incompatibility (it is a weird brand of memory so in all likelihood this is the problem), but I wouldn't know where to start in terms of changing BIOS settings to help the situation. I could return all the modules and replace them with a more familiar brand but then I'd just end up keeping my friend waiting for longer and I wouldn't like that so if anybody has any ideas for solving the problem then I'd be more than happy to hear them!

Thanks,

Hey UND i think you are correct in saying there is a compatibility issue i think that would be the case here as for easing on the memory im not sure what you could do maybe run the ram at higher latencies. Push come to shove however you might have to end up getting alternative memory dimms, and maybe this time stick to something like Kingston or Corsair, also try e-mailing gigabytes support team maybe they can give advice.

I have come across the same problem, and after investigating further, I have found that the problem is confirmed in the specifications of RAM section #2 in the motherboard manufacturer's website:
http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=3795&dl=1#sp

I am very disappointed, as I cannot find any 4GB RAM module that is single sided. I also do not see 8GB DDR3 modules from well known brands either. So, we customers are just stuck!

You rite i did not expect a 4GB module to be single sided and not at this stage as it has only recently become the norm to purchase 4GB single dimms. Well atleast you found the issue, maybe try return it to the supplier and give them you explantaion maybe they can swop it with a double sided memory dimm?
