Hi all, i bought a gtx 1050ti 4gb and when i installed it, the pc doesnt boot, and was wondering what is the best budget card i can buy for this mobo, thanks?

Best budget card for that motherboard is probably going to be the GTX 1050Ti 4GB, There's no reason why the card you purchased should not work.

What is the exact make and model of the graphics card you purchased?
Do you have your display connected to the graphics card output and not the motherboard output?
What is the make and model of your power supply?
Does the card you purchased have external power connectors and if so, did you connect the proper cable from your power supply?

EVGA GeForce GTX 1050 TI 4GB PCI-E
Onboard Graphics Disabled and new cable directly connected via vdu and card using hdmi cable
PSU Thermaltake Smart SE
GPU has no connection for additional power

And again, the GPU is installed in the top PCI-Ex16 slot?

Do you have any other (older) graphic cards that you can temporarily install just to test out the motherboard/PCI-Ex16 slot? I've never been a fan of disabling the on-board graphics, so I'd probably go ahead and re-enable them.

I hate to go there as it really is a last resort, but it may be a BIOS update is necessary.

There are three different revisions on that motherboard. The revision number is printed on the motherboard in the corner nearest to the expansion slots. Can you tell me which revision of the board you have and if you have rev 1.0 or 1.1, what version BIOS you're running?

Morning Wolf

Yes, the GPU is installed in the correct slot, I am replacing my KFA GeForce GTX 650TI 1024MB card, which i have in the mobo at the present.

Onboard graphics, do you mean enable them with the new card? I'll have to enable it with old card first as i am unable to access bios when new card is installed.

Mobo REV is 1.0 and my BIOS is F15.

Thanks

Morning, Robert.

Thank you for the detailed replies. I really helps in trying to narrow this down.

So the system is working with your GTX 650Ti installed, but not with the GTX 1050Ti. That doesn't make a lot of sense to me unless the card is faulty. Did you purchase it new from a store?

If at all possible, try testing the card in another computer (perhaps a friend's computer).
If you have another monitor handy, another test would be to have the GTX 650 in the first PCI-Ex16 slot and the GTX 1050Ti in the secondary PCI-Ex16 slot with one display connected to each card. That should still work as well.

As a VERY last resort, BIOS version F22 does state it improves system compatibility. This MIGHT be what's needed for your new graphics card to work. I tried to find out more details about the update, but couldn't find any. If all else fails, then I would consider this update. Refer to your Motherboard Manual - Chapter 2 BIOS Setup for instructions on how to update the BIOS. I would not recommend attempt to update to the Beta BIOS F23B and just stick to BIOS version F22. Also, I've heard of problems trying to use the Windows based @bios utility, so I'd recommend using Q-Flash (see Chapter 4 of your manual).

Of course, updating the BIOS would need to be done with the GTX 650Ti installed and again, this is a LAST RESORT.

Thank you Wolf.

I think you maybe right and that it is just not working. I bought it from CEX, so second hand. I'll just return it and see if I can get another card from somewhere else.

I don't have another pc to try, nor another display.

But thank you for your detailed help and instructions. I will let you know how I get on, if that is okay.

Regards

When you say doesn't boot, do you mean the lights or fans on the case don't turn on? Does anything happen? I know you were going to return the card, but if you haven't returned it by the time you read this, there may be a few more things you can try.

You could try running the system with onboard graphics and see if Windows recognizes the card is installed. You could try using the card in the second PCIE 16x slot.

Also check if your motherboard is using UEFI bios mode or Legeacy, because GTX 9xx series and newer sometimes don't function if the board is using Legacy bios boot. It's possible to convert your Windows installation to function on UEFI before you change it in bios.

Morning

When the card is installed in main gpu port the system comes on but only as far as first screen showing AMI and remains there. The option to select the bios is not available as the next step is usually identifying GPU. If I put the card into the secondary slot the pc just switches off.

I will try again later after work and see how I get on with the onboard graphics option, and to see which mode in bios I’m using.

Regards

I did a little digging on the internets and found that people fixed their GTX 10 series cards not working in Gigabyte Z77 D3H revision 1.0 boards by updating to the F23b bios. So although Wolfshadw recommended updating bios as a last resort, it seem it may be the only real option. I would say do it now and see if it works. Go here https://www.gigabyte.com/Motherboard/GA-Z77-D3H-rev-10/support#support-dl-bios and download bios F22 and install it then see if it fixes the issue. If not, try F23b and download an updated audio driver as well incase you use onboard audio.

To install the firmware, just Format a USB drive to FAT32 and extract it to a folder on the USB drive, then plug it in to your motherboard and press the END key during boot-up until you get the q-flash prompt from the motherboard. Find the folder you extracted the files to and follow the instructions that come up. You can probably keep the GTX 1050 TI in the system since you said you get the motherboard AMI screen.

Thank you both so much

I downloaded the latest bios and updated my motherboard and the card is working. Just installing latest graphic drivers and I’m done.

Thank you again so much for your time and effort in helping me and solving my problem.

Thanks wolf for letting me know the best card to get and thank you third eye for your continued advice.

Kind regards
