GA-Z77X-UD5H Restarts instead of Shutdown with New Monitor

I have a Gigabyte GA-Z77X-UD5H and Windows 8 64 bit. The PC has been shutting down fine with an old monitor connected via VGA to a R9 280X GPU. I've now installed a new Viewsonic VP2770 monitor via DVI. When I shut down, the PC now restarts instead. Is there a BIOS setting or Windows 8 setting to ensure the PC shuts down correctly?

Windows 8 installed the monitor automatically and it appears as a VP2770 in Device Manager

Does it turn off and then back on or does it stay on?

When I select Shutdown, Windows closes down, the Gigabyte BIOS screen flashes on as in normal power on and the Windows log on screen appears. About 40% of the time the PC shuts down correctly.

Are there updated chipset / power management drivers available on GIGABYTE's website?

Yes all chipset drivers are up to date.I found this potential solution which may be worth a try?

place it on C:\ and open a administrator elevated cmd and go to C:\ and write "infinst_autol.exe -OVERALL" and hit enter (without quote), this should install and overwrite all the drivers u already have.

normally the drivers from the makers of the part are better than the ones that the motherboard maker provides. It's worth a try.
