GA-Z97X-SLI with I7 4790k

It's pretty decent though the video card could be considered a bit underpowered with a 4790k, it will be fine for 1080p gaming though and I absolutely hate that case, but that's just personal preference 😛 All in all, it's a decent combo but I'm not familiar with prices in the US to comment on whether it's a well priced bundle.

I do have a better video card Radeon HD 7950 and just trading out cards in my other system

I have a better case I can use the reason I'm going intel i7 just to get better benchmarks my old AMD Phenom II 1100T sure has been a good cpu

I just got the Z97x-SLI and a 4790k. For some reason it will not clock any higher than 1.7 GHz when running windows. I'm certain that I am stressing the CPU sufficiently (have been running CAD and CAM programs). Pretty disappointing considering the performance of it right now working with my CAD program is worse than what it replaced (Phenom II x2 560). I have yet to do a clean windows install, reason is I'm waiting for my CAD company to transfer the license before I can wipe my current install. Does anyone have any ideas what I should try. If anyone has any BIOS settings to share that would be great. I'm not looking to OC, I just want good performance that is stable.

I tried that as well as some other stress tests. The CPU only goes up to 1.7 still. I'm sure hoping a fresh OS install fixes this. I'm open to any ideas in the mean time.

Yes, I had upgraded the BIOS from F7 which came on it to F8 4/21/2015. When in the BIOS it shows the current CPU clock and its 3 something GHz if I remember right. But when booted into windows it only goes up to 1.7 at the most. I tried several different stress tests to no avail. Still waiting to be able to tdo a fresh windows install.

I just installed windows on a spare hard drive I dug out and the cpu clock ramps up as it should. Can't wait to start using CAD with this rig now that its running like it should.
