I revisited the old topic of GK1 and Windows XP today, and found a
solution that I don't think has been mentioned here before. At
http://www.gabrielknight2k.tk/ there is a special installer created
(not by Sierra but by an Italian called Enrico Rolfi) to fix the
problems. It appears to work great!

Hmm. Since there's no info there -- does this thing get installed,
and then you run it and it installs GK? The only thing (game or
otherwise) that I've not been able to get to somewhat run on XP is
another Sierra thing. It just won't even install.

I should d/l it now before the site disappears again. 🙂

I wonder if it would work with GK1?? I do also have this thing
bookmarked:
http://jhunix.hcf.jhu.edu/~bfrazer1/gk/
But it's a bit more work. (Well, not as much now that I know how to
use Dosbox.)

Oh, LOL. I was just looking down thru the page and saw the additional
notes by you. 🙂

I don't remember having a problem the last time I played GK2 in XP (it may
have been patched, or run as a 95 application or some such).

But GK1 has always been a major PITT to get working.

I downloaded the GK1 installer at the site that Rikard mentioned
http://www.gabrielknight2k.tk/, and it worked perfectly:

Download the new 'installer' file, place your original CD in the drive, run
the 'installer', tell it which drive your CD is in, and play a brilliant
game.

I have had no crashes or save/load problems so far.

Many thanks to Rikard for finding the site.
