I got the phone a few months ago, and I looked in the storage info and it appears that 10 GB of storage (of 64) is used by the OS. This isn't a huge concern for me, but I'm pretty sure iOS in Apple's devices was much more lightweight. How does the android OS take so much storage?

Solution
it's not just android but also all the bloat that comes pre-installed. that is part of the figure since it is part of the "android" installation.

not saying android is small in size but a couple GB of that is bloat for sure. depending on which company you use, the bloat will change but in the end there is always plenty of it to go around. take a quick look at all the extras included that you can't delete whether you use it or not. .....

I'm with verizon and managed to take out a good chunk of bloatware on day 1 of having the phone. The only thing left that cant be deleted (assuming no root access) is visual voicemail. I guess android's just packed with stuff...I guess...
