Hey everyone,

I had my PC since 2018 and everything worked fine. At the end of last year I had a friend gift me his old CPU and RAM. To be able to use it I bought a new Motherboard and Case.

Since then games keep crashing. Not only new games but also games that ran fine before my "upgrade". I also don´t really have an Idea where to start searching...
The PC runs fine while doing smaller tasks and even in games that aren´t that demanding. For games like Apex Legends, GTA V (especially when rendering (?) in-game-scenes) or Satisfactory they crash after different amounts of time..

Especially with GTA V I talked quite some time with someone from their support but none of their recomndations worked...

I have checked with HWInfo for the temps and they seem to be rising pretty high.
Another guess is that my current PSU, which wasn´t changed can´t handle the components under full load.

System Specs before:
- 500 Watt be quiet! Pure Power 10 CM Modular 80+ Silver
- MSI B250M MORTAR Intel B250 So.1151 Dual Channel DDR mATX Retail
- 16GB (2x 8GB) Corsair Vengeance LPX schwarz DDR4-2133 DIMM CL13-15-15-28
- Intel Core i5 7400 4x 3.00GHz So.1151 BOX
- be quiet! Pure Rock Tower Kühler
- 8GB MSI GeForce GTX 1070 GAMING X 8G Aktiv PCIe 3.0 x16
- 128GB Intel 600p M.2 2280 PCIe 3.0 x4 32Gb/s 3D-NAND TLC Toggle
- 1TB Seagate BarraCuda ST1000DM010 7.200U/min 6
- 2 TB Samsung SSD 870 QVO
- Fractal Design Define Mini C

System Specs now:
- 500 Watt be quiet! Pure Power 10 CM Modular 80+ Silver
- ASUS ROG Strix X570-E Gaming -- changed
- 16GB (2x 8GB) G Skill f4-3000c16d-16gisb -- changed
- AMD Ryzen 7 2700x -- changed
- be quiet! Pure Rock Tower Kühler
- 8GB MSI GeForce GTX 1070 GAMING X 8G Aktiv PCIe 3.0 x16
- 128GB Intel 600p M.2 2280 PCIe 3.0 x4 32Gb/s 3D-NAND TLC Toggle
- 1TB Seagate BarraCuda ST1000DM010 7.200U/min 6
- Hyte Y40 Midi Tower, Tempered Glass -- changed

I would be very happy if anyone could help me find a solution or at least show me where to look closer.

Thanks in advance to everyone!

Hey there,

What bios are you running on the mobo? You can check this with CPU-z on the mainboard tab.

Are you overclocking either the CPU or GPU?

I'd be suspect of the PSU. It's about 6 years old, right?
Hey,

- Bios Version seems to be 4408 (27.10.2022).

- I would say none are overclocked but I am not entirely sure ...
Is there any way to make sure both aren´t overclocked?

- Correct. I checked again and I bought it in April 2017!

Try the fresh install. See how that goes. If after that you are still experiencing issues, try a bios update. The PSU being old, and possibly past warranty, may not be providing the right wattage and as a result there is lesser performance.

Hey again,

I have made a fresh windows install and tried again, same result.
After that I have installed the new Bios. That unfortunately also didn´t help either...

I have checked some sites online (https://www.newegg.com/tools/power-supply-calculator/ for example) regarding my power consumption. There seem to be quite different suggestions ...
On one website the estimated power is around 500 to 599 W.
On another site it is only 351 Watts, another is 435 W.

Now I am quite confused ...

My next questions would be:
- could the ingame crashes be a result of the PSU being too weak?
- Is there any way to measure the actual consumption of all my parts?

Thanks for all the answers so far everybody! :)
