Game chopping/stutter using auto detect game settings

My Specs

CPU - AMD A8 5600k
GPU- Nvidia GTX 750 1gb
RAM- 6gb (1 2gb card, 1 4gb card both same speeds)
HDD- 160gb (I dont know the speed of it its trash though)
MOBO- Biostar A55ML2

Okay so recently I downloaded fortnite, I have about medium specs for the game (in between the minimum and the recommended). It has a auto graphic setting where it will set the graphics according to your system specs. I sets them to high, but the game is unplayable at these settings, and stutters with big fps drops even though the game says I can play at high with my setup. Im playing in 1080p.

So I lowered all the graphics to medium, same problem. Lowered all to low, and its playable but still has times where it will just freeze up anywhere from 0.5 - 5 seconds. I even tried lowering from 1080p to 1600x900 and the same freezes happen randomly.

This is not the only game this has happened on using auto-detection in the game for graphic settings.

What could be causing this? Why would the auto- detection put me on high settings when I can just barely play with low settings? I am able to play black ops 2 at maxed out settings with 4x AA with 90 fps. So its weird that I would get freezes/stutter on all low for a game I have over the minimum requirements for.

Can anyone help me figure this out? Could a slow HDD cause this? or any other options or fixes possibly?
