Game Crashing Without FPS Drop

So lately (Within the past week) I purchased a new graphics card, the Radeon XFX core edition 7870. My previous card was a radeon gigabyte 6670.

The thing that is bothering me is whenever my GPU load tops out at 100%, instead of the usual fps drop, the game crashes completely. No error messages or anything pop up, it just goes straight to the desktop. Graphics intensive games like Planetside 2, or Skyrim with mods crash, where as less intensive games like team fortress 2 don't. I watched the GPU load through MSI's afterburner monitoring program and it was evident that games always crashed upon reaching max load. Temps never got above 59'C. I tried adjusting my fan curve, but it made no difference. I've tried messing with the game programs/files but that is clearly not the problem. (seemed no other forums mentioned anything like this) I bench marked the card on MSI kombustor to see its true potential. During the test it performed well, and the testing program didn't crash, so it seems to happen only during games. Like I said, everything worked well before with my other Graphics card. I didn't change anything other than the graphics card. After getting the card I installed the new drivers. I am running Windows 8. Usually I am pretty strong with computer hardware, but this has me baffled.

Here are my pc's specs:
750 Watt bronze certified PSU
Core I7 920 CPU (Water cooled and slightly overclocked)
Rampage II extreme MOBO
Radeon XFX core edition 7870
120GB SSD and a 500GB Hard drive (If it makes a difference)

Let me know any ideas! Thanks!

Solution
Ok here's what I suggest then.

uninstall current driver and do not restart,
run driver fusion and clean AMD driver then restart.
install latest AMD drivers as custom and only install display and hdmi driver.

After that download and install CCleaner and do a compllete registry clean.

If the problem still hasn't been resolved..

Update your BIOS for your particular Motherboard and update it to the latest release BIOS

let me know if this helps
well what exactly is the PSU you're using? cause what it sounds like to me like that once your GPU reaches 100% load the amperage or wattage load is too high for it and it just cuts out.

You said you stress tessed the GPU, during the stress test did it reach 100% aswell?

This could imply your CPU could be bottlenecking your since it is pretty old.. and you may be playing CPU intensive games, however that would cause large fps drops not game crashes.

Are you sure you installed the nwest drivers? are they beta drivers available if so try those.

Also what games is it crashing on?

now that is just weird.. if your GPU doesn't crash during a stress test, yet it crashes during a game load.. that, that is jut weird..

Does the game give an error when it crashes or it simply crashes without a message?
Could you try other system intensive games? like battlefield 3,AC3, AC4 anything within that category.

Not a single error pops up. It just crashes straight to the desktop. I will go try some other games and get back to you once completed.
I just installed the beta driver from that link I gave you, and it didn't make a difference.
