Hello,

I've logged about 300 hours into DayZ, and now all of the sudden I'm trying to play and after about 5 minutes of playing, the game freezes and these rainbow-colored squares pop up all over my screen. Some black blotches also come up on the screen. I can't do anything until I pull up the task manager and end the task for the game, then the blotches go away and everything is back to normal.

I thought maybe it was just the game, so I tested with some benchmark software and it does the same thing after a couple minutes. I then have to end the task for the benchmark software to get the rainbow squares to go away and to unfreeze my computer. So now I thought maybe my GPU is overheating for some reason. So I pulled up some monitoring software for both the GPU and CPU, and while the game is running, the temperatures for either one never even hit 60C before it freezes and the rainbow squares pop up. So now I'm completely lost and have no idea what is going on. Why would my GPU be crashing before it even hits 60C. Even though the temp is not very high, could it still be overheating? It is pretty warm in my room, but wouldn't that be reflected on the temp monitor?

What else could be going on?

My setup is:

Intel i5 3570k
AMD Radeon 7850
PC Power & Cooling Silencer MKiii 600w
120gb ssd
500gb hdd
AsRock z77 pro4

I've been running this setup for 2 years and have not made any recent changes.

Unfortunately, no. I could try unplugging the GPU and try running some programs on my integrated graphics and see if the same problem happens. I'll try that now

OK, I tested with my GPU unhooked, and tried running some games off of the integrated graphics and it worked fine. Well, of course it was laggy because the GPU is much stronger, but at least it stayed up for more than 10 minutes. I've now got a fan on my GPU as well and it still crashes. Ughh this is so frustrating...

Ok, so now I tried updating my amd driver to the newest version, which is 14.4 and now my second monitor will not detect and my sound doesn't work... This day cannot get any worse..

Could this all be related to my SSD overheating? Because all of my drivers are on my ssd

Ok, I've since reverted the amd driver back to 13.12 and my 2nd monitor started working again, as well as the sound. Not sure, maybe the newest AMD driver has problems supporting a passive miniDisplayport to DVI adapter?

Anyway, it is much cooler in my computer room now, yet it still freezes and the colored boxes still come up. This time it only hit 55 degrees Celsius.. This shouldn't be happening. Any other ideas of what I could try?
