Question game lags whenever fps drops below monitor refresh rate

so i have a 144hz monitor (samsung c24fg70) thats hooked up to my laptop, i can only get 120hz cuz im using an hdmi cable to connect the monitor. My laptop is 4k(3840x2160) at 60hz and the monitor is 1920x1080 at 120hz. in games that i play i noticed that whenever my fps drops below 120 hz my game feels sluggish and choppy, i mainly play valorant.

This happens because they are not in sync. Unfortunately, there are no direct ways to fix this. But from your game settings (if it allows), you can try setting a fps limit so it is close to the refresh rate of your monitor.
