Got one like that too some weeks ago - didn't think much of it as my e-
mail address is not hidden in my posts so anyone can create/forge a mail
to draw me into visiting a particular site.

I just might have done that - and given the fact that I haven't received
any such recently, it might have worked too

I actually received one of these in response to a post about Rome Total
War that I posted to the csipg.strategic group.

Likewise, it kinda caught me off guard but seemed legitimate. It
directed me to a web forum where my question was posted and the
responder's reply followed up. (His follow-up was also posted to the
group.) Nothing sinister ... but a one-time deal.

FWIW I do not mangle my e-mail address or name when I post so it could
have just been a robot at work. I dunno.

thats what makes it odd, neither the sender nor the reciever had anything
to do with it and it seems random. its not sinister just odd.

They're probably just trying to let people know about their service.

could be. i hate mod groups though. i'll take the flame and off topic posts
over censorship anytime. mod groups tend to be rather selective in who gets
censored and some like the ww2 group end up being run by folks for
themselves and their cronies.

Correct - having censors in here would kill all the OT fun. I'm not
ashamed to admit that I like a good flame-war every now and again - the
see-saw action in them is like a good wargame and where else can you
learn new and usefull expletives ?
