Gamers Raid Medical Server to Host Black Ops

They should have made it a time limited server and only allowed operation from 1900 to 0600 local time. A hidden dir and a couple of nicely done scripts and no-one would have been able to detect it. Probably.

Ughhh euros -_- they should learn that there is no such thing as a free lunch and that they are not entitled to the services and property of others when it is not meant for their use. In this case hacking into a server that was for medical use.

This is why developers do not like to create games with dedicated server support. They are doing it to protect medical information everywhere! Just say no to dedicated servers.

Hey, how's the view from up there?

The bigger question is why this medical server had external access, I know hospitals have to share data but there's gotta be a smarter way to store that information or at least keep it encrypted.

Nah, this server is just for billing and insurance claims. Medical records are still kept in hard-copy files (by law).
[citation][nom]im_thelumberjack[/nom]Why would you create a dedicated server over 4,000 miles away none the less hack one to play a game. The pings would be terrible.[/citation]
Why would you hack a server at all? All it takes is a cheap computer running linux. In most of Scandinavia, they have 10-100mbps running to each and every home, so it wasn't a bandwidth issue either. This was done purely for the thrill of it. Some nerd in his mom's basement got a hard-on doing it, and that's all you need to know.

Hey, it could've been a muscled tanned blond in-his-20s trying to impress a 18 year old model while being at her home over a LAN Party with some friends... It could... It...

You know what, never mind.

Cheers!

I was thinking the exact same thing.

Most hacker that does those kind of hack don't care about what is inside the server all they want to know is what is the spec of the pc and connection speed. If it as good ram, cpu , connection... then lets host something on it... I believe the part that says that nothing as been steal for personal information cause they mostly don't even look at that when they hack for hosting stuff.

funny as it may sound but I have a feeling that they may have hacked it from Scandinavia to create a server for the local gamers.....it's like oh you guys don't have a good dedicated server there, and we all love the game, oh wait, we'll make one for you....
It's just a bunch of kids and they really did it for the thrill of it or to thrill someone else.....
