Games are not showing option above 1080p resolution

Hello all,

I just upgraded to a 1440p monitor, and when I run my games, none of them show an option to increase the resolution above 1080p. My drivers are up to date, and my desktop is set to 1440p. I sometimes try running the games from the nVidia GeForce program where you can optimize settings outside of the game, and set the resolution to 1440p there, but it automatically changes back to 1080 as soon as I open the game. In the nVidia control panel, the "adjust desktop size and position" is set to 1440p. I feel like i am missing something obvious here because I couldnt find anything in my searches.

Hi, i don't think the resolution is set to 1440p yet, set this under change resolution under display in nvidia cp, few up from adjust desktop size and position.

In adjust desktop size and position though does it say current next to 1440p or 1080p?

Under the "change resolution" section, yes it is set to 1440p. And under the "adjust desktop size and position" section, It says "current" next to 1440p.

Try changing in Windows resolution, apply 1080p and then apply again for 1440p. See if changing back and forth in Windows own resolution and not in nvidia cp helps at all.

Thank you for your help boju. While trying your last suggestion in the windows resolution section, I noticed I had my TV plugged into my video card. My TV is rarely used and I forgot it was even plugged in to my PC. It is also 1080p. When I unplugged the HDMI cord from it, now my games run in 1440p! The option has appeared now in every game to run at 1440p. Thanks for your help with troubleshooting. I hope that this issue can somehow help someone else should this problem pop up anywhere else.
