Had this problem for a about a year and can't find a solution. I'm on Asus n550JV. I can run a number of games using the integrated intel graphics, but they crash when I try to run them with the 750m. Most recently had this problem with Payday 2. Haven't been able to find an answer. Thoughts anyone?

Solution

Sorry, i asked then took off.
I came across this thread earlier , perhaps it is something that can help. http://www.eightforums.com/bsod-crashes-debugging/57319-bsod-randomly-when-playing-games-igdkmd64-sys.html

Maybe:
I believe steam has issues across many types of PC configs and there is one thing that is a factor for more times then other issues. I believe it is related to Peripheral hardware and drivers, Gamer Peripherals...
Crashes immediately on launch. In the case of Payday 2 I get a black screen, then returns to windows desktop with the message "Payday2 has stopped working". If I launch using the integrated graphics, it launches properly, and I can run the game, but with poor graphics and a lot of stuttering.

I believe steam has issues across many types of PC configs and there is one thing that is a factor for more times then other issues. I believe it is related to Peripheral hardware and drivers, Gamer Peripherals specifically Logitech and sometimes Razor. Disabling all other HID Devices in the device manager seems to help performance and some others game related problems.

Sorry, did not post properly. Here is what I meant to say:

Thanks Vitric9. I think it worked.

The problem listed there is different, but tried it anyway. Here is what I did:

1. the post suggested that I update my intel graphics drivers. Device manager said my drivers are up to date. So I tried to update them manually from the intel website. Got a message that my laptop had OEM drivers installed and I couldn't use the intel drivers.

2. Downloaded intel drivers from Asus (http://www.asus.com/support/Download/3/529/0/2/dad5aYI8mC6sfoNV/41/) and used those to update.

3. Restarted and the problem seems to be solved now. Tested on Spore, and Bullestorm (both of which were giving me the same problem), and I can run both using the Nvidia graphics card.

So, problem solved. Thanks a lot. :)
